SAR Dog Handler Imposter Is Sentenced in September 11 Fraud Case

Scott Shields claimed to have rescued many lives with his golden retriever, Bear, at the World Trade Center after the attack on September 11, 2001. In fact, he was not a trained dog handler, nor was Bear a trained SAR K9. Mr. Shields was convicted in October of defrauding the federal government (FEMA) and the American Red Cross by claiming to be a victim of Sept 11 and thereby received financial assistance for rent for an apartment in lower Manhattan in which he did not live at the time of the attack.
